Chun Basic Anatomical Positions

It
is important to divide the body into different sections, and term
the parameters for ease of communication. Most text books will
term techniques or areas of body slightly different, it is inevitable.
Training
drills focusses on different areas of the body so that learning
skills would be easier to understand and achieved.
The
Centreline does not really exist just like the centre of mass/gravity,
it is an imaginary line that forms vertical co-ordinates along
middle of the whole body. This provides a key central plane for
all horizontal axis. The centreline correlates with several vulnerable
targets, e.g. nose, chin, heart, groin. Also it refers to the
points of balance and high impact receptive points.
The
two vertical lines within the left and right shoulder is the 'insidegate
area', and beyond the two vertical lines are the 'outsidegate
areas'.
The
upper level is the two horizontal lines between top of the head
and the collar bone (clavicle).
The
1st mid level is the two horizontal lines between collar bone
and the breast bone (solar plexus).
The
2nd mid-level is the two horizontal lines between breast bone
and the pelvis.
The
lower level is the two horizontal lines between pelvis and the
feet.
